HJP International Limited (HJP) is an independent consulting firm providing services for developing countries focussed on economic development and investment in the rural sector. HJP was formed in March 1988 to continue, under a different business structure, the international consulting activities of The HJ Partnership, an agricultural consulting firm which originated in Canada in 1980 but moved to the UK shortly afterwards. HJP is registered in the United Kingdom as a Private Limited Company and is based and managed in Herefordshire in the centre of one of England's major agricultural areas.
The major emphasis of the firm's work is on providing the essential short-term inputs for the design, appraisal, monitoring/supervision and evaluation of projects and programmes in agriculture and rural development. These have involved: crop and livestock production; irrigation/water management; natural resource management and conservation; agricultural support services; forestry; and artisanal fisheries. Important areas of focus in recent years have been market and agri-business development including making markets work for the poor, and value chain processes; and rural finance at all levels from grassroots rural savings and credit co-operatives and micro-finance institutions to apex wholesale institutions. HJP also undertakes agriculture sector analysis, programming and planning, price policy analysis, and marketing studies. In short, HJP carries out a wide range of the work necessary for investment projects and technical assistance programmes to be well executed.
